Dec. 11, 2017 - Moore shares seventh CK demo, "Kings Park Youth," on Patreon
Kevin Moore has posted a new 3:09 demo song, titled "Kings Park Youth," through his Chroma Key Patreon campaign, which launched in 2015 and invited fans to pledge an amount of their choosing to help fund new music. The tune is the first one that Moore has ever created solely using a guitar, he said.
"This is the first demo that I wrote and recorded on guitar alone, with no keyboards," Moore said in a post on Patreon. "I had a demo version (just verses) of this song for a few years, which I recorded on a digital Tascam 8-track recorder. I always wanted to complete the song and record a full produced version. I found bassist and drummer Alex Scott on Fiverr.com and he added his tracks in the 2 days right before I posted the preview. I think Fiverr is a great resource for working with other musicians, at least based on my work with Alex."
The tune is available in MP3, FLAC and M4A (Apple Lossless) formats with lyrics and patron names embedded in the files. In addition, Moore said he is still planning to release a bonus track for Chroma Key Enablers ($5 pledgers), and multitrack stems and production notes for Chroma Key Collaborators ($10 pledgers).
Nov. 14, 2017 - Moore posts YouTube video for CK demo, "Bonewalk"
Kevin Moore has posted a 4:28 video on YouTube for "Bonewalk," which is one of six demo songs released so far through the Chroma Key Patreon campaign. The demo was originally shared with fans in December 2016.
"I released 'Bonewalk' to you guys on Patreon almost a year ago, December 17, 2016!" Moore said in a post on Patreon. "Many thanks to patron Kim Arthur for the video, which just incorporates a subtle sound wave animation over the title card. It's up on YouTube now - please share! :)"
Moore has previously stated that "Bonewalk" was mastered by Jens Bogren of Fascination Street Studios in Sweden, who also mastered and mixed Fates Warning's most recent album, Theories of Flight. He also shared some insight into how the song was created when he first posted it last year.
"It started with a sample of some spontaneous chanting my brother Patrick captured at an 'ecstatic dance' gathering he organized in Costa Rica," Moore said. "I started messing with some Rhodes piano riffs to accompany the chanting loop, and built the song up from there. For the verses, I tracked the vocals and Rhodes part at the same time, which is new for me. Later I replaced the improvised vocals with words that made (a little) more sense."
The other Chroma Key demos that can be heard on YouTube are "Mission" and "4-Track." Those videos came after the keyboardist polled his Patreon patrons about making the demo releases available to stream online to help promote the new music, with an overwhelming majority of the voters in support of the idea.
So far, Moore has released six demo songs through the Chroma Key Patreon campaign, which launched in 2015 and invited fans to pledge an amount of their choosing to help fund new music. There have also been seven bonus tracks shared with fans.
Nov. 5, 2017- Moore shares sixth CK demo, "Strong," on Patreon
Kevin Moore has posted a new five-minute demo song, titled "Strong," through his Chroma Key Patreon campaign, which launched in 2015 and invited fans to pledge an amount of their choosing to help fund new music. The song features guitar parts by Fates Warning and OSI guitarist Jim Matheos, who also appeared on the demo song "Broke Antenna," which was posted in June.
"This song started as a synth riff I played on drum pads of the Maschine. (I didn’t know what notes I was playing, which was kind of liberating.)," Moore said in a post on Patreon. "I performed the drums on the drum pads as well. The intro riff and all the synths pads were played on the Diva synth. The Rhodes is played on the Lounge Lizard. All of the melody sections are also on the Lounge Lizard – they’re sounds based on electric piano, but tweaked into synth sounds. The bass synth was played on Massive. There is much more synth layering going on in this song than I’ve ever done before. Somehow the sounds all fit in their own space." Moore also added, "There are a couple more samples from my brother’s 'ecstatic dance' gatherings thrown in there in the beginning."

Sept. 10, 2017 - Moore posts YouTube video for CK demo, "4-Track"
Kevin Moore has posted a 3:48 video on YouTube for "4-Track," which is one of five demo songs released so far through the Chroma Key Patreon campaign. The demo was originally shared with fans in February.
"I made a simple video for '4-Track' which is just a static shot of the track playing on my Maschine Studio production controller, showing the visual feedback on the color pads," Moore said in a post on Patreon.
When "4-Track" was originally shared with fans in February, Moore said it was mostly programmed on the Maschine. "I played the drum patterns in real time, edited them for some variations, then added the bass, synth and Rhodes parts," he said. "Later, I imported everything into Ableton Live where I tracked vocals and... more synth. I kept adding new synth parts until my Mac became frustrated and threatened to leave me. I hope you're satisfied."
The other Chroma Key demo that can be heard on YouTube is "Mission." That video came after the keyboardist polled his Patreon patrons about making the demo releases available to stream online to help promote the new music, with an overwhelming majority of the voters in support of the idea.
So far, Moore has released five demo songs through the Chroma Key Patreon campaign, which launched in 2015 and invited fans to pledge an amount of their choosing to help fund new music. There have also been five bonus tracks shared with fans.

Sept. 3, 2017 - Moore shares fifth CK demo, "Somewhere Better," on Patreon
Kevin Moore has posted a new four-minute demo song, titled "Somewhere Better," through his Chroma Key Patreon campaign, which launched in 2015 and invited fans to pledge an amount of their choosing to help fund new music.
"This is a stretched out groove track that probably wouldn't have been out of place on the first CK album, Dead Air for Radios," Moore said in a post on Patreon. "I started messing around with recording guitar loops and riffs into Ableton Live. I wanted to write something with a riff that just kept driving on, so it becomes kind of hypnotic (kind of like a Neu! track). The main guitar part is just eighth notes on an A. For the verses I added some Wurlitzer chord progressions to work a vocal melody over. The washed-out synth pad that runs over the whole track is a Behringer DM12 polyphonic analogue synth."
The demo is the fifth released to fans through the Chroma Key Patreon campaign. The first song, "Mission," was posted in December 2015 and was the first music released by Moore under the Chroma Key name since 2004's Graveyard Mountain Home. The second song, "Bonewalk," was released in December 2016. That track was mastered by Jens Bogren of Fascination Street Studios in Sweden, who also mastered and mixed Fates Warning's 2016 album, Theories of Flight. The third demo, "4-Track," was posted in February, while the fourth demo, "Broke Antenna," was posted in June and featured Fates Warning and OSI guitarist Jim Matheos. There have also been four bonus tracks shared with fans.
June 23, 2017 - Tuesday the Sky shares playthrough video of song featuring Moore
Tuesday the Sky, an ambient instrumental rock project that is the brainchild of Fates Warning and OSI guitarist Jim Matheos, posted an instrumental playthrough video today for the song, "It Comes in Waves." The tune is the fourth track on the project's upcoming 10-track debut album, titled Drift, which is slated for release through InsideOut Music on June 30. The 4:29 video features Matheos, Kevin Moore, and God is an Astronaut drummer Lloyd Hanney, according to InsideOut Music.
"The album's third single 'It Comes in Waves' is being launched today with a playthrough video produced by Chris Anderson, which features performance footage by Jim Matheos (Guitars & Bass) as well as Lloyd Hanney (Drums) and Kevin Moore (Keyboards)," InsideOut Music said in a press release for the video.
Tuesday the Sky explores "expansive textures and ambient electronica" and takes cues from artists such as Brian Eno, Boards of Canada, Sigur Ros and Explosions in the Sky, according to InsideOut Music. Matheos said the project came together during the downtime between Fates Warning releasing its 2016 album Theories of Flight and the beginning of the band's current tour cycle. The album will be released as a special edition CD, black LP and CD, and digital download.
The project has already streamed two other songs, "Vortex Street" and "Today the Sky," neither of which feature Moore. In addition to "It Comes in Waves," Moore appears on the album's closing track, "Drift."

"Like Bonewalk, Broke Antenna was built up around another chanting sample recorded by my brother in Costa Rica," Moore said in a post on Patreon. "I played a Rhodes riff around it and then programmed drums on Native Instruments Maschine. Right before mixing I sent the track to Jim Matheos who laid down several tracks of (mostly improvised) guitar. Thanks, Jim!"
The tune is available in MP3, FLAC and M4A (Apple Lossless) formats with lyrics and patron names embedded in the files. April 13, 2017 - Moore to play on Matheos' instrumental project Tuesday the Sky
Kevin Moore will be appearing as a guest musician on the upcoming debut album of Tuesday the Sky, an ambient instrumental rock project that is the brainchild of Fates Warning and OSI guitarist Jim Matheos. The 10-track album, titled Drift, is slated for release through Inside Out Music on June 30, according to the music news website Blabbermouth.
Moore will play on two songs, the website said. Other guests include God is an Astronaut drummer Lloyd Hanney and Anna Lynne-Williams, who has performed under the stage name Lotte Kestner and is a vocalist and guitarist in the indie pop band Trespassers William.
"With this kind of music, it's a lot about creating a mood and letting that sink in and develop over long periods of time, as opposed to the more frenetic format of most prog music," Matheos said in the Blabbermouth article. Of possible live performances, he said: "It would be a challenge to bring this project but it is an interesting idea and one I would at least consider if there seems to be enough interest."
Tuesday the Sky is said to explore "expansive textures and ambient electronica" and take cues from artists such as Brian Eno, Boards of Canada, Sigur Ros and Explosions in the Sky, according to Blabbermouth. Matheos said the project came together during the downtime between Fates Warning releasing its 2016 album Theories of Flight and the beginning of the band's current tour cycle.

March 9, 2017 - DT vocalist James LaBrie recalls first conversation with Moore
Dream Theater vocalist James LaBrie recently recalled his first interaction with the progressive metal pioneers in the early 1990s, which came in the form of a phone call with original keyboardist Kevin Moore. The singer's reflections came in a video interview posted online this week by The Dream Theater World, which describes itself as the band's official worldwide fan club. The interview was done in promotion of the band’s 25th anniversary tour for its 1992 breakthrough album, Images and Words.
"Kevin Moore was actually the first one I spoke to in the band," LaBrie said in the interview. "He's the one that called me up and said 'Hey, you know, we heard your tape. Man, you know, we want you to come down and seriously consider jamming with us.' I said, 'Hey, you know, sounds good. Can you send me some of your stuff?' I said, ‘What do you guys do?’ And Kevin said, ‘Oh we’re like progressive hard rock – metal.’ I said, ‘What? Really?’ You know, I’m a huge Rush fan, so I was like, ‘Really, like Rush?’ And Kevin’s like, ‘Yeah, yeah – that’s a great example. Rush, man.’ And I went, ‘Really, okay, I gotta hear this stuff.'"
LaBrie continued, "So they got me [the band's 1989 debut album] When Dream and Day Unite and they got me a few songs from Images and Words that they had already been working on. Needless to say I was like, ‘What the hell is going on here? This is phenomenal.'"

Feb. 27, 2017 - Moore posts YouTube video for CK demo, "Mission"
Kevin Moore has posted on YouTube a streaming version of "Mission," the first demo released through his Chroma Key Patreon campaign. The five-minute song, originally shared with his supporters in December 2015, was the first music released by Moore under the Chroma Key name since 2004's Graveyard Mountain Home album.
"Here's a link to the 'Mission' demo I just put up on YouTube," Moore said in a post on Patreon. "Let me know if you have any suggestions / ideas/ changes... Please share!"
The streaming version comes a few weeks after the keyboardist polled his Patreon patrons about making the demo releases available to stream online, with an overwhelming majority of the 242 voters in support of the idea. Moore posted the video on a new YouTube account created under the Chroma Key name.
At the time of demo's initial release in 2015, Moore said: "The song was built up around a guitar melody by Jim Matheos (heard in the choruses). The lyrics are from the poem 'Mission' by Leonard Cohen (from Book of Longing). I'll have to change them if I decide to include this song on an album!"
Since launching the campaign, Moore has released three demo tracks and four bonus songs. In addition to "Mission," he shared "Bonewalk" in December 2016 and "4-Track" in February 2017. The first two bonus tracks were instrumental versions of "Mission" and "Bonewalk." The two most recent bonus tracks were "I Got Nothing," which was recorded over a decade ago in Turkey, and an instrumental version of "4-Track."

Feb. 24, 2017 - Moore shares new bonus track, "I Got Nothing," through Patreon
"This time I thought I'd pick out something obscure from the archives...," Moore wrote in the e-mail to his Patreon supporters. "Here's an instrumental I recorded one afternoon for my friend Theron Patterson's radio show on Açık Radyo in Istanbul back in 2005. It's a playful, stretched out groove that kind of goes along with this month's synth-groove theme."
Since launching the campaign, Moore has released three demo tracks and three bonus songs to fans. The first song, titled "Mission," was posted in December 2015 and was the first music released by Moore under the Chroma Key name since 2004's Graveyard Mountain Home.
